Little Sparklers Secretary Position Description

Little Sparklers is an exciting, young not-for-profit that aims to empower parents to nurture their young children day and night, building connected, resilient families. 

We support families to parent in a way that encompasses the needs of the whole family and respects the unique intensity of needs in the first years of a child’s life. We have built an online “village” where parents can access peer support for their own mental health, and which provides a community forum and resources for infant sleep. This includes an established 170,000-strong peer-to-peer support group on Facebook, and a committed and passionate volunteer base with extensive skills.

We registered as a charity with the ACNC in July 2019 and quickly earned the top tax-deductibility rating- DGR1. The global pandemic has been a very difficult period for the non-profit sector, but we have navigated complex challenges and continued to grow and develop as an organisation throughout. As we emerge, we are now poised to move into the next phase of establishing ourselves firmly as a valuable resource and community service provider in the health promotion sector.

We seek applications from people interested in performing the company secretary role.

Selection criteria

  • Board, secretarial experience, or regulatory/ legal experience within an ACNC Registered charity or in the not-for-profit sector, or relevant experience within a risk, legal or compliance function at a senior level within a for-profit organisation
  • Strong understanding of governance theories and the frameworks, policies and processes needed to ensure compliance issues are addressed.
  • Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills, an ability to build relationships and multitask, and a willingness to learn


  • Project management skills
  • Demonstrated interest in women’s and children’s health or parenting

Further information       

  • Meetings will be by teleconference approximately every month, but ad hoc interaction with the Managing Director and the Board to maintain effective and timely communication will be required.  
  • Time commitment will be approximately 5-10 hours per month.  
  • The term for the role is 3 years.  
  • This role is on a non-remunerated basis and offers a valuable opportunity to build board-level skills while helping to deliver tangible community impact.
